Online Excel File Recovery FAQ
1. The power went out while I was saving a report
Question:
I was finishing my monthly report in Revenue.xlsx in Microsoft Excel 2024 on a Windows 11 desktop when the power went out while I was saving. After I restarted, Excel said, “We found a problem with some content in FileName.xlsx. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.” Clicking Yes drops the last day of data. Can you explain how to repair an Excel file online without losing those entries?
Answer:
Here’s how to repair an Excel file online after a power outage: first, keep the damaged original in a separate location. The interrupted save may have left part of the workbook unreadable, and Excel then discards it. Upload the original XLSX at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and let the recovery run. Download the resulting XLSX, compare the last day’s rows with Excel’s repaired copy, and cross-check any missing totals against the cash register report.
2. The laptop battery died while saving a macro-enabled workbook
Question:
I was saving Orders.xlsm in Microsoft Excel 2021 on a Windows 10 laptop when the battery died before the save dialogue disappeared. Now I get “Excel found unreadable content in filename.xlsx.” The workbook has order tables and a macro that prints invoices. Would MS Excel repair online help if my main priority is getting the orders back?
Answer:
The shutdown may have interrupted a component of the XLSM file. Try MS Excel repair online with a copy of the damaged workbook: upload it at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and wait for the recovery result. Check the resulting XLSX against your order numbers and totals. The invoice-printing macro will not carry over to XLSX; you'll need an intact XLSM backup for that.
3. A Windows update reboot interrupted my work
Question:
I was editing Costs.xlsx in Microsoft Excel 2019 on a Windows 11 work PC when it unexpectedly restarted for an update. After I signed back in, Excel said, “The file is corrupt and cannot be opened.” The file is still in the folder and appears to be its usual size, but I cannot find an AutoRecover version. Could Corrupted Excel File Repair Online help?
Answer:
The restart may have landed in the middle of a workbook save. A normal file size doesn't prove every part was written correctly. Save a copy of Costs.xlsx and check the folder’s version history first. If there is no intact version, try Corrupted Excel file repair online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/: upload the copy, wait for recovery to finish, and download the XLSX result. Compare the recovered cell values with the last approved cost calculation.
4. Excel froze and crashed during a save
Question:
I was entering inventory results in Stock.xlsx with Microsoft Excel 2016 on a Windows 10 desktop. Excel froze during a save, displayed “Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close,” and now the workbook will not open. Is Corrupted Excel recovery online an option if I mainly need the quantities at each warehouse?
Answer:
The crash may have interrupted the inventory sheet’s write, though the crash message alone does not establish the cause. Check for AutoRecover versions and avoid overwriting the bad file. For Corrupted Excel recovery online, upload a copy of Stock.xlsx at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, wait for the process to finish, and download the recovered data as an XLSX. Compare warehouse quantities with the most recent inventory count sheet.
5. Excel was closed through Task Manager
Question:
I was saving Deliveries.xls in Microsoft Excel 2003 on an old Windows 7 PC, but I thought the app had frozen and ended it in Task Manager. Now Excel says “File format not valid.” Renaming the XLS has not helped. Can I open and repair Excel online without installing another program on that computer?
Answer:
Ending Excel during a save may have cut off part of the old XLS structure; changing the filename will not rebuild it. To open and repair Excel online and extract whatever data is available, make a copy and upload it to https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. Once the XLS is analysed, download the recovered data as an XLSX and open it in Excel 2007 or later. Check the delivery dates; changes that never made it to disk may be absent.
6. The system drive ran out of space
Question:
I was saving Payroll.xlsx in Excel for Microsoft 365 on a Windows 11 laptop when the system drive filled up. First, I got “Excel cannot complete this task with available resources.” After I freed up space, this workbook still fails to open. Could an Online Excel file repair tool help?
Answer:
The lack of free space may have interrupted the save. First, confirm that other workbooks open after the cleanup. If Payroll.xlsx is the only one still affected, use the Online Excel file repair tool with a saved copy at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. Upload it, wait for analysis and recovery, then download the recovered XLSX. Before relying on it, spot-check several pay calculations against the underlying records.
7. Saving to a USB drive failed
Question:
I kept inventory in Materials.xls in Microsoft Excel 2002 on a Windows 7 computer and saved directly to a USB flash drive. Excel reported a write error; now it says “Excel unable to read file.” The USB drive also disconnects at random. Can I recover an Excel file online without repeatedly working from the failing drive?
Answer:
Both the XLS file and the USB drive may be affected, so first try copying the file to a healthy disk. If you can get a copy, you can recover the Excel file online from that copy: upload it at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and download the recovered XLSX. Check material names and units of measure. Do not save the result back to the unreliable USB drive.
8. A large workbook failed to save
Question:
I was working through a large, multi-sheet Logistics.xlsx file in Microsoft Excel 2013 on a Windows 10 PC. Excel stopped responding, showed “Unexpected error,” and wouldn't open the next time. Is Corrupt Excel file recovery online worth trying to get the routes sheet back?
Answer:
A save failure can affect one sheet or the links among workbook parts, so check the routes sheet separately. Keep the original XLSX and try Excel’s built-in Open and Repair command on a copy. Then try Corrupt Excel file recovery online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ with the original file and review the recovered XLSX. Compare the number of routes with your dispatch log.
9. Antivirus software quarantined an Excel temporary file
Question:
I was working in Clients.xlsm in Microsoft Excel 2007 on a Windows 7 PC when my antivirus quarantined an Excel temporary file. Now I see “Cannot access read-only document”; similar reports call it “File in Use error opening Excel 2007 Files.” Do I need an Online Excel repair tool, or should I check what is blocking access first?
Answer:
An access error does not by itself mean the workbook is corrupt. First, check the antivirus quarantine, folder permissions, and any Excel processes still running in Task Manager. If a local copy of the XLSM remains unreadable after you fix the access issue, an Online Excel repair tool may help inspect its contents. Upload a copy at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, review the recovered data or download a demo file, then download the XLSX result if useful. You will need an intact XLSM backup to restore the macros.
10. An external drive was unplugged during an Excel copy
Question:
I copied the Excel 2024 template Rates.xltx from my Windows 11 laptop to an external drive, then unplugged the cable before the copy indicator disappeared. Excel now says, “Excel error: cannot open file because the file format or file extension is not valid.” I already deleted the original from the laptop. Can you explain how to recover a corrupted Excel file online if the external copy is all I have?
Answer:
Here’s how to recover a corrupted Excel file online when a copy was interrupted: do not edit the only remaining XLTX. Move an available copy onto a healthy drive and upload it at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/; recovery starts automatically. Review the preview and download the demo file, then save the recovered data as an XLSX and check its price rows and formulas. If the transfer stopped before the tables were written, that data may be missing.
11. A save to a NAS share lost its connection
Question:
I was saving Plan.xlsx from Microsoft Excel 2021 to a NAS share on a Windows 10 work PC when the server connection dropped. Excel says, “Filename.xlsx cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding.” Can Online repair Excel file help if a local copy also will not open now that the network is back?
Answer:
First, separate a file access problem from corruption: check the NAS and copy the workbook to a local drive. If the local XLSX is unreadable too, try Online Repair Excel file. Upload that copy to https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, wait for the upload and recovery to finish, and download the recovered XLSX. Also check NAS snapshots for an intact version from before the disconnect.
12. An XLSX download stopped midway
Question:
I was downloading Invoices.xlsx, created in Excel for Microsoft 365, to an Android phone when the mobile connection kept dropping. On my Windows 11 laptop, Excel says “Excel cannot open the file .xlsx because the file format or file extension is not valid.” I cannot download it again right now. Can I repair the file online with the copy that made it onto my phone?
Answer:
An interrupted download often leaves an incomplete file, so get a fresh copy from the source when you can. In the meantime, you can attempt Excel corrupt file repair online in the Android browser: select the XLSX already on your phone at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and let recovery run. If the service finds tables, download the XLSX and verify the invoice count.
13. An email attachment downloaded incompletely
Question:
I received Payments.xls, created in Microsoft Excel 2000, by email and saved it on an old Windows 7 PC. The mail app reported a dropped connection, and Excel now says, “This file is not in a recognisable format.” The sender is unavailable for now. Can you explain how to repair a corrupted Excel file online so I can at least retrieve the payment numbers?
Answer:
Here’s how to repair a corrupted Excel file online with a partial attachment: save what you have as a separate XLS and upload it to https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. If you can extract records, download them as an XLSX and check the sequence of payment numbers in a newer version of Excel. Ask the sender for the complete original as soon as possible. Excel 2000 itself cannot open an XLSX file.
14. Dropbox sync stopped before a workbook finished uploading
Question:
I was uploading Budget.xlsx from Microsoft Excel 2019 on a macOS MacBook to Dropbox, but closed the laptop before sync finished. On my iPhone, I can see the filename, yet the file will not open. Can Recovery Toolbox for Excel online pull data from that cloud copy?
Answer:
The cloud copy may be incomplete, so check Dropbox version history first. If no intact version is available, use Recovery Toolbox for Excel online from your phone: download the problem XLSX, upload it at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, and wait for recovery. When you can access it, compare the resulting XLSX with the local file on the MacBook; the local version may have more edits.
15. OneDrive created a conflicting workbook copy
Question:
A coworker and I edited Shifts.xlsx in Excel for Microsoft 365 on separate Windows 11 laptops, and OneDrive created a conflicting copy. Mine lacks their latest shifts; their copy will not open on either the laptop or an iPad. Can you explain how to repair an xlsx file online without letting sync overwrite either version?
Answer:
Here’s how to repair xlsx file online in a OneDrive conflict: first, download both versions under different names and check version history. Upload the coworker’s unreadable XLSX at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and download the recovery result. Compare the recovered sheets with your working copy and manually transfer only the missing entries. The service will not merge the two sets of changes for you.
16. A ZIP extraction reported a CRC error
Question:
I extracted Project.xlsx from a ZIP archive on a Windows 7 PC, but the unzip tool reported a CRC error. The file was made in Microsoft Excel 2010 and exists in the folder, yet Excel cannot read it. Could an online Excel repair tool help if I don't have another copy of the project archive?
Answer:
A CRC mismatch means the extracted bytes didn't match the stored checksum, so that the workbook may be incomplete. Keep the damaged archive and look for another ZIP copy first. You can then try an Excel repair tool online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/: upload the extracted XLSX and download any tables it can recover. Inspect each sheet separately because the archive error may have affected only part of the workbook.
17. A template was copied from a failing SSD
Question:
I copied Catalogue.xltx from an external SSD to a MacBook running macOS and tried to open it in Microsoft Excel 2021. The copy stalled and retried several reads; now Excel keeps saying, “The document Filename caused a serious error the last time it was opened.” Can I fix an Excel file online without going back to that flaky SSD?
Answer:
That message does not always mean the workbook is corrupt, so first check whether other Excel files open on the MacBook. If only the copied Catalogue.xltx has trouble, try to fix the Excel file online using the copy already on the Mac: upload it at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, download the recovered XLSX, and compare the item numbers. If the copy is incomplete, further recovery must start with retrieving data from the failing SSD.
18. The hard drive has bad sectors
Question:
I keep Archive.xls, created in Microsoft Excel 2003, on a Windows 7 desktop. The hard drive has started reporting read errors, and Excel says “.xls file format is not valid.” Several other files are difficult to copy too. When does it make sense to use an Excel recovery tool online for this archive?
Answer:
First, get a readable XLS copy onto a healthy drive; the service cannot process bytes you cannot copy off the device. If you have one, use an Excel recovery tool online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ to upload it. Recovery starts when you select the file. Download the XLSX result and check which years remain in the archive. Do not keep doing everyday work on a drive showing signs of hardware failure.
19. A memory card started failing
Question:
I moved Measurements.xlsx, created in Microsoft Excel 2016 on a Windows 10 PC, onto an Android tablet’s memory card. Now the card sometimes disappears from the device, and the workbook will not open on either the tablet or my PC. Could an Excel online repair tool recover the measurements?
Answer:
Card errors may have damaged some file blocks. Save any accessible copy of the XLSX to the internal storage of a healthy device first. With an Excel online repair tool at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, select that copy from your tablet or computer and wait for the recovered XLSX. Verify the dates, times, and measurement count against the instrument log. Do not write the result back to the failing card.
20. CHKDSK left a workbook in place but unreadable
Question:
After a file system error on a Windows 7 PC, I ran CHKDSK. Now Invoices.xlsx no longer opens in Microsoft Excel 2013. Its name and extension are still there, and it worked before CHKDSK. Could Recovery Excel online help even though the directory entry survived?
Answer:
CHKDSK may have repaired the file system without restoring the workbook’s lost content. Copy the bad XLSX to another drive and look for a backup from before the scan. Then try Recovery Excel online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/: upload the copy, wait for recovery, and download the extracted data as an XLSX. Pay particular attention to the most recent invoices and their totals.
21. A deleted XLS was only partly recovered
Question:
I accidentally deleted Cash.xls from a Windows 10 PC and got it back with a deleted-file recovery utility. The workbook was originally made in Microsoft Excel 2007. Its name is back, but the file is smaller, and Excel no longer recognises it. Can I repair XLS online and get at least last week’s transactions?
Answer:
The utility may have recovered only some pieces of the deleted XLS, so check its other results and your backups first. If this is the only copy left, try to repair XLS online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/: upload it, inspect the preview, and download the recovered data as a new XLSX. Compare the cash transactions with your receipts. No repair service can recreate rows whose bytes are missing from the file.
22. The restored backup contains a damaged XLSX
Question:
I restored a project folder from a RAID backup to a Windows 11 computer, but Work_Plan.xlsx from Microsoft Excel 2024 will not open. The other files in that backup are fine, so the workbook may already have been damaged when the backup ran. Can I try XLSX repair online without touching the saved archive?
Answer:
Yes. Leave the archive alone and work on a separate copy of the XLSX. For XLSX repair online, upload Work_Plan.xlsx at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, wait for recovery, and download the result. Compare it with earlier restore points: an older intact workbook may have more usable formulas than the newer damaged one. Choose the version with the most complete stages and dates.
23. A workbook may have been changed by malware
Question:
After cleaning malware from a Windows 7 PC, I tried to open Contacts.xls in Microsoft Excel 2007. Excel says, “This file is not in a recognisable format.” I mainly need the sheet with customer phone numbers. Can Online Excel sheet repair help if I do not know which part of the file changed?
Answer:
The Excel message alone cannot prove that malware changed the file; also check backups and the disk’s condition. For Online Excel sheet repair, save a separate copy of Contacts.xls, upload that copy at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, and inspect the recovered XLSX for the contact sheet. Cross-check names and numbers against the CRM before contacting customers.
24. A CRM produced a broken Excel export
Question:
I exported Deals.xlsx from our CRM on a Windows 11 laptop, but it will not open in Excel for Microsoft 365. Other exports work, and I urgently need the sheet with August’s closed deals. Is an online Excel sheet repair worth trying if the CRM generated a bad file?
Answer:
First, rerun the export and report the error to the CRM administrator; a correct, fresh export is your best source. If you cannot get one right away, test Excel sheet repair online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. Upload the broken XLSX, wait for recovery, and inspect the sheets in the resulting XLSX. If the CRM never wrote the deals into the file, they cannot be pulled out of it.
25. An export from Google Sheets was interrupted
Question:
I exported a Google Sheets spreadsheet to XLSX on a macOS MacBook so I could use it in Microsoft Excel 2021. The download stopped early, and the file will not open on my iPhone either. I especially need the delivery address sheet. Can I repair an Excel sheet online while Google Sheets is unavailable?
Answer:
When you can access Google Sheets again, rerun the export for the most complete copy. Until then, try repairing the Excel sheet online using the downloaded file at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. Upload the XLSX from your MacBook or iPhone, wait for recovery, and save the result as an XLSX. Compare the address count with your latest route list.
26. A third-party spreadsheet editor saved an XLS incorrectly
Question:
I opened Rates.xls from Microsoft Excel 2010 in a third-party spreadsheet editor on a Windows 10 PC and saved it under the same name. Now Excel says “.xls file format is not valid,” though the extension has not changed. Could an online Excel file repair tool help if that editor wrote the file structure incorrectly?
Answer:
First, look for the XLS from before the resave; it may solve the problem immediately. If it is gone, an Excel file repair tool online may help with a copy of the changed file. Upload it at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and check the recovered data in the downloaded XLSX. If the editor saved a completely different format with an .xls extension, you will need to identify the actual format.
27. A script wrote an incomplete XLSX
Question:
An automated script sends me Stock.xlsx every day, and I open it in Microsoft Excel 2024 on a Windows 11 PC. Since a script change, Excel only opens it with a damaged-content warning, and some products are missing. Can I Fix corrupt Excel file online while the developer fixes the export?
Answer:
The script may have written bad internal links or left data out of the XLSX. The recurring issue must be fixed in the script itself. To fix a corrupt Excel file for today’s report, upload it to https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, review the recovered preview, and download any found tables as an XLSX. Compare the product count with the inventory system. A repaired report does not mean the next automated export will work.
28. Converting an old XLT template stopped midway
Question:
I was converting Application.xlt, created in Microsoft Excel 2002 on a Windows 7 PC, to a newer format on a Windows 10 laptop with Microsoft Excel 2016. Excel froze during the save. Now even the original template produces “Cannot open .xls file,” although its extension is XLT. Do I need Excel repair software online to get the application fields back?
Answer:
The conversion may have overwritten part of the original template. Check the old computer and backup folders first. If no intact XLT remains, Excel repair software online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ can test the damaged copy without installing anything: select the file, let recovery run, and download any found tables as an XLSX. Build a new template only after checking its fields against earlier completed applications.
29. Editing the XML inside an XLSM broke its internal links
Question:
I manually edited the internal XML files in Model.xlsm from Microsoft Excel 2019 on a Windows 10 PC. After I put the package back together, Excel offers to remove unreadable content and drops the sales forecast sheet. Can Excel's online repair extract that sheet from the version before Excel’s automatic fix?
Answer:
The manual edit may have broken the link between the sheet and other XLSM parts. Keep the original damaged file separately; accepting Excel’s fix creates a changed version. For Excel file online repair, upload the original XLSM at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, preview the recovered data, and download a demo file. Check the forecast numbers in the recovered XLSX. Macros from the original will not be transferred to that XLSX.
30. An XLTX template became corrupt
Question:
I used Proposal.xltx in Microsoft Excel 2021 on a Windows 11 laptop to make customer quotes. After a network share failure, the template stopped opening, although last week’s finished quotes still work. Could “Repair file Excel online” help me get back the current pricing table?
Answer:
First, check the network share’s backup for an older template and keep the damaged XLTX separately. If no other source exists, try “Repair file Excel online” at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/: select the XLTX, let recovery run, and download the extracted data as an XLSX. Compare the prices with the latest approved quote. The recovered XLSX is a regular workbook; after verifying it, you can use it to make a new template.
31. An XLAM add-in stopped loading
Question:
I re-saved Calculations.xlam for Microsoft Excel 2013 on a Windows 10 PC. The add-in no longer loads and throws “Error 91.” It contained helper sheets with reference coefficients. Can you explain how to recover Excel file data if I need the coefficients more urgently than a working macro?
Answer:
Here’s how to recover Excel file data from an XLAM: first, rule out a VBA bug. “Error 91” by itself does not prove the add-in is corrupt. Check the code and compare it to an earlier copy. If the file truly is unreadable, upload the XLAM at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. Inspect the extracted sheets in the resulting XLSX and compare the coefficients with the published reference. The service will not restore a working add-in or its VBA code.
32. iCloud sync left a workbook that Excel wants to repair
Question:
I edited Trips.xlsx in Microsoft Excel 2021 on a macOS MacBook and shut it down before iCloud Drive finished syncing. On my iPhone, Excel offers to repair the workbook, but doing so removes two days of expenses. Is Excel corrupted file recovery online worth trying on the cloud copy?
Answer:
The cloud and local copies may differ, so save both before overwriting either. Try Excel corrupted file recovery online on the copy downloaded from iCloud at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, then inspect the recovered XLSX. Compare expenses by date with the MacBook version and bank statement to see which copy holds more entries.
33. An RDP disconnect coincided with an Excel save
Question:
I was editing Rates.xlsx in Excel for Microsoft 365 over RDP on a Windows 11 work computer. The connection dropped during a save, and the next time I signed in, Excel flagged unreadable content and offered to remove some records. Can you explain how to recover a corrupted xlsx file while keeping a copy from before Excel’s repair?
Answer:
Here’s how to recover a corrupted xlsx file in this case: copy the original workbook from the remote computer before accepting any repair. An RDP disconnect alone does not necessarily damage a file, but it may coincide with an incomplete write. Upload the copy at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, wait for recovery, and compare the resulting XLSX with Excel’s repaired version. Check the rates entered immediately before the disconnect first.
34. A shared folder outage made an XLTX inaccessible
Question:
I work with Estimate.xltx from a shared folder on a Windows 11 tablet running Microsoft Excel 2024. After a network outage, Excel says, “The file is corrupt and cannot be opened,” though other templates in that folder are fine. Can you explain how to open a corrupted Excel file online so I can at least see its prices?
Answer:
Here’s how to open a corrupted Excel file online in this case: first, copy the XLTX into a local folder on the tablet. If the local file opens, the network access was the issue. If it remains unreadable, upload a copy at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/ and inspect the recovered XLSX. Check the prices against your approved price list before making a new estimate.
35. Excel says an XLSX extension is invalid
Question:
I downloaded Register.xlsx from a company portal and tried to open it in Microsoft Excel 2016 on a Windows 10 PC. Excel says, “Excel cannot open the file .xlsx because the file format or file extension is not valid,” even though the filename looks right. Can I fix Excel online if I cannot tell whether I got a workbook or the portal saved an error page?
Answer:
First, check the file size and try the download again; a file named .xlsx can contain something else entirely. If you cannot get a fresh copy, try to fix Excel online at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/: upload the file you have and download an XLSX if it contains recoverable tables. If the portal only saved an error page, the register data are not in that file.
36. Rows vanished after Excel repaired a workbook
Question:
I opened Payments.xlsx in Excel for Microsoft 365 on a macOS MacBook, and Excel automatically repaired it after an earlier save failure. The repaired workbook opens, but the last payments on the August sheet are gone. I kept the damaged original. Could Excel Repair File Online find the rows Excel removed?
Answer:
Excel’s repair may have discarded an unreadable section to reopen the workbook, so the damaged original is useful for another attempt. Try Excel repair file online with that original at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/: upload it, review the recovered data, and download the resulting XLSX. Compare the August rows in both recovered versions.
37. A worksheet will not open, and a macro reports Error 1004
Question:
I use Production.xlsm in Microsoft Excel 2021 on a Windows 11 laptop. After a network share write failed, one sheet stopped opening, and the macro that uses it now reports “Error 1004.” Could “Repair Excel corrupt online” restore that sheet’s data?
Answer:
“Error 1004” may come from the macro itself, so first see whether the XLSM opens without running the automation. If Excel also cannot read the target sheet, try “Repair Excel corrupt online” at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/: upload a copy of the XLSM, preview the recovered data, and download the tables found as an XLSX.
38. Excel removed formulas and a macro reports Error 13
Question:
I opened Bonuses.xlsm in Microsoft Excel 2019 on a Windows 10 PC after Excel had crashed. Excel removed several formulas during repair, and the calculation macro now ends with “Error 13.” Could “Recovery file Excel corrupt online” work on the original XLSM rather than the copy Excel already repaired?
Answer:
“Error 13” usually points to a VBA type mismatch and does not tell you whether the original still holds the formulas. For “Recovery file Excel corrupt online,” keep both versions separately and upload the original XLSM at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. Check the formulas in the recovered XLSX and manually recalculate several bonuses. The macro will need a separate fix.
39. A copied XLTM lost links among its parts
Question:
I was moving Planning.xltm from Microsoft Excel 2024 between two Windows 11 computers through a shared folder when the copy stopped. Excel sees the template but cannot read several sheets, and I cannot access the original computer. Do I need Excel file recovery software if the sheet data matters more than the template macros?
Answer:
An incomplete copy may have broken the links among XLTM parts, so check the shared folder’s version history first. If no other copy exists, you do not need separate Excel file recovery software: upload the XLTM to the online service at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/, wait for recovery, and download the data as a new XLSX. Check each sheet’s planning figures. XLSX will not retain the template properties or macros.
40. An old binary XLS has a damaged structure
Question:
I found Catalog.xls, created in Microsoft Excel 2003, on an archive PC running Windows 7. It copies without an error but will not open there or in Microsoft Excel 2024 on my new Windows 11 laptop. The old Excel says, “Cannot open .xls file.” Is “How to repair Excel file corrupted online” the right next step if the problem seems to be inside the XLS?
Answer:
For “How to repair Excel file corrupted online,” keep the original untouched, look for earlier versions, and upload a copy of the XLS at https://excel.recoverytoolbox.com/online/. Wait for the upload and recovery to finish, download any data found as an XLSX, and check the item count, part numbers, and prices. The fact that two Excel versions reject the same copy is a reason to examine the file itself.

This is gold.. loved the service
best to use great app
recovery was not complete but helpful. Sending robot messages with no reply is not.
Excellent application!!!
Hello,
I'm glad to tell you what I know, although I'm not sure it will help much.
I would send you the corrupt file ... but it has confidential information
on it ... so that's not an option.
First off, I'm running the latest version of OpenOffice 4 Spreadsheet on
using Windows 11.
I normally always save in the OpenOffice file format, but I had saved this
file in excel 97 format as I was planning on experimenting in running the
file on an iPad and needed a format that I could use on either machine and
the basic iPad spreadsheet doesn't support OpenOffice formats. In addition,
I'm not running any Microsoft products so that's not an option. I've been
using OpenOffice for at least 25 years and no need for MS products.
Anyhow ... that's what I was running on.
For some unknown reason, OpenOffice has been crashing on my regularly over
the last several months which led me to upgrade to the latest version, but
that did not solve the problem. No idea what the problem is but if crashes
often when saving, so now I have to save after every couple of changes to
be sure that I don't lose much.
The file has always been "recovered" after executing it again, and I just
re-enter the last data and continue until the next crash.
Keep in mind that it's just the simplest spreadsheet you can make. Only
math is plus, minus, multiply and divide.
No VBA, no Macros, nothing. Just a basic spreadsheet.
-----------------------
So when it crashed and the file could not be recovered, that's the first
time I've ever had the program not be able to "recover" the file in over
30 years of working with spreadsheets. Maybe I've just been lucky. Either
way, I knew software existed to recover such files so I searched and tried
several demo versions including yours and decided upon yours as it was the
most affordable to me.
--------------------------
I'm just glad I was able to recover the file as it is a simple file, but
still several hours of work to recreate.
Thank you and keep up the good work.
I should also say thank you for making something affordable as I am an
elderly person with minimal income to live on ... and the other options
I could not afford ... and had it not been for you guys, I would have
just spent a few hours recreating the spreadsheet. So a sincere thanks
for creating something affordable to almost everyone, even me.
Regards,
Lance
Find Recovery Toolbox when searching solution online to recover Excelfile. Have tried some different solutions and finally I found a working one in this toolbox that solved our issue. Very pleased :-)
Excel.lent! I couldn't with other applications and this one worked the first time!
I was skeptical at first - but I was desperate to get my file back. I took the plunge and recovery got my file back saving me many hours of rebuilding it. Thanks!
HELPED A LOT
too slow but help ful
The file I needed to recover through recovery, my file was successfully restored.

I experimented a personal crisis a few days ago. I worked from home in a very demanding project with detailed financial data. Worked for 4 hours and although I saved the excel file, it was corrupted and could not open. I had to deliver it next day. After careful searching I went through your webpage. I was very reluctant for the fear of having my bank card scammed. I paid and then: I was informed about the payment, then I received my invoice, and finally I received a link with my fixed file !!!!! A zillion thanks for your service !!!!! You can trust this company. Another important factor about their sincerity,is you are offered a demo version of your fixed file, without your data.Only with this mark I was convinced they are not liars. Again thanks for your professionalism!!
Very nice
About half of the file has been recovered. Also good, of course, but I was counting on a full recovery.
wyyyy WOOOOOW THANKS :D
nice
Recovered PERFECTLY !! Thanks a lot !! A LOT !!
Great
Scenario: large Excel file not saved elsewhere and costing hours of work. The file becomes damaged for unknown reasons. After trying a few manual systems to no avail, I tried RecoveryToolbox and since the data seemed to be read correctly, after 10 minutes I purchased it. Great software that worked very well in my case.
great tool. It Works Excellent.
The service sends a restored Excel file in the new version with the extension XLSX.
My Android phone could not read it. I had to ask technical support to send the file in the old version.
There is no problem with this on my Windows computer.
A few days back I saw a small flickering "saving sign" around te mouse when i was working in my excel sheet, just that one. Then one day it went complete blank, no pages, no headers, just unacessable menus that's
But service helps me in few clicks.
Did everything it said it could , and made it very easy to do .Exellent software
some people deleted this Excel files. After this I try to recover it. But I make a mistake, in one moment I overwrrite the file. And now de recovery files are damaged
Two almost sleepless nights and many pieces of nails flew in the meantime, before I discovered this site. A few euros to recover hours and hours of "work" and very useful data, it's really not expensive to pay. We may not (or no longer) be professional, but we are no less software users, these processes are extras to recover files that all the windows tutorials gave lost. Thanks a lot !
On 5 megs of Excel file (.XLS), it recovered me 2.5 megs.
Bye bye
The file (a workbook) got suddenly damaged and did not open despite following MS Office instruction to repair damaged excel files, hence that’s why I ended up with your application.
The file has fórmulas, conditional formation and several tabs. No macros are included.
good
it is glad to know that your effort is appreciated
Repairing of Excel spreadsheets was successful, it's a pity that some cells with the formula have only values.
I was very lucky, even the formulas inside some cells repaired. Thanks for the file.
I tried to repair the Excel file with macros, but instead of xlsm, I got an xlsx file with no data in a VBA script.
The program was able to extract data from a damaged Excel file, even cells with formulas!
Almost any file that I was able to recover from a killed flash card was invalid. And here I have to say honestly, your program was very useful. She was able to fix more than half of the damaged .xlsx files. These were quarterly financial audits, these are very significant and large documents. Thank you so much.
Did an excellent job - I returned the Excel document to the previous working version, but there is one thing, but. If you want to recover VBA Macros, unfortunately, this program will not work for you. Macros have not restored, but the table has repaired completely
Guys I'm ready to pay for password recovery in .xlsm file, please help me to solve this problem!
Microsoft Excel displays the error "could not read the document file, this file was not saved" after a virus infected the computer. The virus removed, the problem remains. .xlsx files are no longer available. I bought the program hoping to fix my files, but I was able to repair only 11 files out of 14. It turned out that 3 files were protected by passwords that the program could not recover
"XLS file format is not valid", I received this error message today when I tried to open an Excel document. After restoring the file, formatting is lost: all my merge cells were separated as separate cells, which amounted to 50% of my document
By online recovery tool I restore .XLSX document. But hyperlinks in some cells and custom macros were not recovered from corrupted spreadsheet.
The best I've used before.
Tables have been repaired in 1,2,3. I recommend everyone
This is a good software
Very good!!!
